  Koester House Museum

The Koester House Museum, nestled in the heart of downtown, is an excellent place to take a look at life in Marysville before the turn of the century. If the walls of this white frame Victorian house could talk, they surely would tell of the early Marysville banking family who built the home, the handsome couple who moved in as newlyweds and had three children before the wife was struck down by consumption at the age of 35, leaving her husband, small son and two daughters.

The Koester family came to America in 1850 from Germany. Charles F. Koester arrived in Marysville in 1860. He engaged in business and was recorder and treasurer of Marshall County. He joined his brother-in-law in the bank which became the Exchange Bank of Schmidt & Koester. Eventually the Koester family developed an entire block, which had two homes, one now a museum and the other a restaurant, several business buildings and a park. The entire block was given to the city of Marysville by the Koester heirs in 1977. Click Here

Central Branch Railroad

Upon realizing that the historic tracks of the Central Pacific Railroad from 12th road in Marshall County, Kansas to the Marshall/Washington county line were to be abandoned by the Union Pacific Railroad in 2000, a group of concerned citizens and railroad enthusiasts immediately commence with the process of delaying that action in an attempt to preserve these historic tracks and, in doing so, preserve railroad history in Waterville and Blue Rapids, Marshall County and the State of Kansas. The Society was established as a nonprofit organization and raised the necessary funds in 7 days to stop the abandonment. The Society became owners of 11.89 miles of Central Branch railroad track in 2001. CLICK HERE

Innkeepers

Friday, 30 October 2009 13:04 by amann

Tony and Ann both like restoring old furniture and houses.

They've restored the Victorian house they live in at 112 Hazelwood Street in Waterville.

In the fall of 2004 they decided to transform an 1876 Victorian house into a Bed and Breakfast, also in Waterville.

In 2007 they sold that renovated Bed and Breakfast to visiting guests that then turned the house into their summer home.

Tony and Ann saved this house from demolition by the city.  Despite the leaking roofs, no running water and infested with squirrels, they renovated the Bed and Breakfast into a home-away from home atmosphere.

Both of them are natives of Marshall County and enjoy the history their town has to offer.

This guesthouse is unique in away because Tony and Ann are non-resident Innkeepers.

Tony is the guide for Kansas Hunting Adventures,LLC also located in Waterville, Kansas.
